About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Singapore - Cruise SE Asia - Shanghai International Port - Aust.

My wife and I will be flying into Singapore from Australia, staying for 2 nights, then cruising SE Asia, arriving at Shanghai's Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal. We will spend 3 nights in Shanghai then flying back to Australia. Depending on which airline we use, we may be transiting through Singapore or flying direct to Australia. Will we be eligible for 72 hr / 144 hr transit visa.

Yes, if Shanghai is your only port of call in Mainland China and the last port of call.

The cruise stays overnight in Hong Kong, then a stop in Taiwan followed by 3 Japanese ports with the cruise ending n Shanghai, CHINA. It does not visit any other ports in China, being islands or Mainland, is this still for OK for transit-free visa

Mainland China is a political term and neither Hong Kong nor Taiwan is considered a part of it in this context. Your itinerary is fine.
