About:China Transit Visa

Beijing Layover

Hi-

I'm a US citizen and traveling through Beijing with a 9 hr layover on my way back to the US. If I wanted to leave the airport and go into Beijing for a few hours, do I need to get a transit visa from the China Consultant before my trip?
