About:Chinese Embassy in Switzerland

Can you provide clear feedback on required documents and elapsed time to obtain visas to China?

I am a British citizen and my wife is French, both living in Geneva. I am planning to deliver a 5 day course and my wife plans to accompany me so that we can also travel, for approximately 10 days, as tourists after the course. Given my travel obligations prior to coming to China, can you indicate the following: a) Which documents are required to obtain our visas ? b) What is the minimum elapsed time to obtain the visas? c) does this require two trips from Geneva to Berne? d) in the event that you require more time than a morning to grant us a visa, do we have to leave our passports with you?

a. The documents required are as follows:
1.Your passports with blank pages and at least 6 months validity left before expiration.
2. Truly and completely filled application forms affixed with one passport-sized photo. (both Form V2011A and Form V2011B).
3. An original Visa Notification Form issued by Chinese authorized unit or an invitation letter - your inviter university/school shall handle this for you. (if there is any problem getting them, you can also apply for a tourist visa L instead, it is simple and you can just fill in the visa application form that your purpose is for travel only)
4. A copy of the round-trip plane ticket
5. Hotel reservation and previously used China visa is any.

b. China visa processing takes 4 working days at the embassy in general. They provide rush/express service if you need. (China visa is valid for 3 months after issue, so, do not apply too early based on your departure time)

c. Please try to call 041-31-3514593 at14:30-15:30 and make sure that if you can get your visas on the same day. As far as I know, they have service available for picking up visa within 24 hours.

d. Sure, the visa officers will keep your passport during visa processing.
