I would like to know any places of interest or tourist destinations in the Urumqi area. I will be staying in Hutuba in July 2012?

You should not miss the Silk Road, Heavenly Lake, Red Hill, Kanas Nature Reserve and the Southern Mosque and Shaanxi Great Mosque when travelling to Urumqi. They are all worth visiting.

hi Thad first i warmly welcome to xinjiang , the best place to see in urimqi is  big market and museum,  then if you have more time come to kashgar and hotan  ,   ,, southern  defffernt then urimqi <urimqi is moderen city . more info  about xinjiang  keep in touch  from kashgar .
