Requirements for Visa application

I am a canadian citizen, applying for a visa to China. What are the requirements? I have the visa application form, my passport picture and passport. Do I need to submit my flight itinerary? Do I need to submit hotel accomodations? What are all of the requirements so that I can ensure I have all that I need for the application? I hope to take the trip next week, so a prompt reply would sincerly be appreciated!
Thank you!

2. Passport valid at least for 6 months, a recent 2x2 passport-size photo

3. Invitation letter from a Chinese unit or an individual

4. If without invitation letters, applicants should submit the itinerary, airticket and hotel reservation etc.
