Is a degree required to work as an ESL teacher in China?

Hi there. I am soon to complete my TEFL teaching certificate and plan to work in China. I do not have a degree.

There seems to be some mixed informatin about this. Some sites are saying the law has changed and you must hold a degree as proof of academic background. I still see some jobs that don't ask for one, and some places saying that if you are willing to work outside of Beijing, a degree is not needed.

Are you able to clear this up?

Kind Regards
Paul

Yes, a degree is required to work as an ESL teacher in China. When the employer applies for Alien Expert Permit for you at the local Human Resources & Social Security Bureau. Your curriculum vitae, copies of educational diploma and credentials required for the performance of the job(Chinese translation of the documents mentioned is required as attachment, the notarial certificate in Chinese or English of qualification for the performance of the special job is also required).
