application for transit visa

Hello. I have a Phil passport. I would be flying USA to Phil. From USA there will be a stopover/layover of 12hours in Beijing before heading to Phil. I would like to apply for transit visa so I can have my dream visit to the "Great Wall". My question is: I apply to China Embassy in the Phil, are they going to hold my passport while processing the visa? Or can I submit a photocopy or my passport instead? Thank you :)

You have to submit your original passport. The visa application process only takes 4 working days, and there is also express service provided. You can get your passport back soon. Please don't worry.
