How can we reach china from hongkong? what are the requirements needed?

By May of this year our family is going to Hongkong for a pleasure trip for 3nights and 4days, and we are planning to visit also china to see beautiful sights and to shop also, aside from china visa is there some documents we have to prepare? and can we pill up the print visa form by handwritten? thank you so much.
