They need a China visa per person to stay in the airport for 5 hours because it is not a direct tickets, if your parents fly to Sanya directly, a visa is not required for them. Without a valid China visa, maybe the airline company will refuse them to board the plane.

Hello First of all Thank you for answering my question so quickly. As i mentioned earlier, my parents are planning a trip to Sanya, where Russian citizens dont need visa if its less then 15 days. But there are no direct tickets, so they are planning on going through Beijing. The question is: Do they need visa to just stay in the airport for 5 h or so?And you have answered that visa is needed. Is it in any airport of china? I saw another russian person asked the same question but he was traveling through Hong Kong, and he was told that in Hong Kong he can stay no prob without visa, waiting for his next flight but without leaving the airport. Can you please clarify this?thank you in advance

Hong Kong applies different exit and enter controls from Mainland China, Russian nationals are exempt from a visa to Hong Kong for up to 14 days, therefore, the Russian person travelling through Hong Kong don't need a visa. Your parents will transit Beijing airport, then go to Hainan, a China tourist visa is required. If the itinerary is Russian - Beijing Airport (less than 24 hours layover) - a foreign country, a visa is not required because it is considered as a transit.
