Applying for a visa with a delayed invitation letter

Hello, I will please like to apply for a china visa. Unfortunatly I have delayed with the visa application because the invitation letter sent to me was in december last year. I will please like to know if I could present the same invitation letter I had last year or I should request for a new one from my friend. I could not go in last december because I had a funeral.
