i have a crew visa, i want to take my children with me on a flight to beijing.

According to the rules of China, crew members who intend to visit China for sight-seeing or visiting relatives must apply for Tourist visas (L-visa), regardless of the availability and validity of their Crewmember visas (C-Visa), so you have to apply for a visa to China, and youe children also have to.
