Can international students, holding X visa, work in China?

I am a foreign student in china, holding X visa. As I have plenty of free time, I would like to ask if I can work for Chinese company provided that I have residency permit valid until the end of this year while I am still studying.

You are not allowed to work for Chinese company because you are a student in China. It is illegal to do so, however, many foreign students do part-time job, especially teach English. Your residence permit is for studying in China rather than work in China.
