If your itinerary is Vietnam - Hong Kong - Mainland China, you need a Hong Kong visa and a China visa before departure.

You can apply for the two visas at the same time through China embassy in Hanoi or China Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. Please prepare the following documents:
1. your passport and photocopies of data pages
2. two passport photos
3. filled China visa application form V.2011A, Hong Kong visa aplication form ID 1003A
4. the round-trip flight tickets
5. hotel booking in Hong Kong
6. if you don't want to provide the hotel booking in Mainland China, please provide the invitation letter of your friend together with the copy of his residence permit.
