About:Marriage Registration in China

Already married in China, do I have to leave country every year to get new vias?

I'm a little confused. I am married to a Chinese citizen (i am American). I have been living in China for 8 months and plan to continue living here. My question is this

Do I have to keep leaving the country every year to apply for a new visa even though I am married. Is there anyway for me to stay in China and extend my residency visa?

Thanks for any answer

What kind of residency visa are you holding? Is it for work or for family visit?

re: David

Its a family residency permit I am on. I'm not working in China so I don't have a work visa.

You can try to extend your residency visa at the local Exit-Entry Administrative Department of Public Security Bureau, you don't need to keep leaving the country every year to apply for a new visa. Please submit the following documents when you go to the Exit-Entry Administrative Department:

1. your American passport
2. your wife's Chinese passport or ID card
3. the marriage license
4. household registration sheet of your wife

You'd better ask your wife to go there with you, she can have a better communication with the officer in Chinese.
