I now plan to get a 1-year residence permit, based on the fact that I have been married to a Chinese for more than 6 years (she has a Shanghai Hukou), and own a house in Shanghai. Once I have this residence permit, am I able to continue working legally without a specific work permit?

Holders of this kind of resident permit are not allowed to work in China.
