17 hours layover in Guangzhou, do I need a visa?

I am a New Zealander travelling to Paris via Guangzhou in May 2012 arriving early morning with a 17 hour layover. Is it possible to visit some sites like Xiangjiang Safari Park and the city and do I need a visa or other legal requirements

Yes, it is possible for you to visit some sites like Xiangjiang Safari Park and the city. You can apply for a 24 hours stay permit by showing the confirmed connecting flight tickets when you arrive in the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, then you can exit the airport. If you can't get the stay permit, you can't leave the airport.
