Can I apply for HKID card in Canada?

I was born in Hong Kong but emigrated to Canada 40 years ago. Presently reired and would like to apply for the HKID card for the convenience of frequent travels back to Hong Kong. Can you tell me if I can apply here in Canada? Thanks.

No, you cannot apply for a Hong Kong ID card in Canada. But if you'll apply for a Hong Kong passport from the embassy or consulate in Canada, the officers will at the same time give you a Hong Kong ID card.
