my sister's boyfriend is Colombian and they will be coming to China to visit me in January, and i know that she (a US citizen) can get in HK visa free, and get her Chinese visa there, overnight (for an extra fee of course). is it the same for Colombian citizens?

Both your sister and her boyfriend can apply for a China visa in Hong Kong. It takes 3 – 4 days and costs HK$ 150 – 1,100. If you want to get the visa within 2 days or 3 days, you have to apply for rush service or express service by paying extra HK$ 250 or HK$ 150 besides the regular visa fee. It only costs USD30 for a Colombia citizen to apply for a single-entry China visa in USA.
