journey from chongqing to zhangjiajie

Question

Do I need to book the ship upfront? Will it be available if I only book for it when the time I reach Chongqing as I am unable to confirm on the actual date to arrive in Chongqing?Can I get to Zhangjiajie from Yichang? Any Idea how to get there from Yichang? Possible to visit in Zhangjiajie on our own instead of join the local group? Looking forward to your kind advise and thanks in advance.

Genrally you can buy the ship tickets in shouder season, but if you want to take the ship journey in high season, such as May, Sep or Oct, you need to book the tickets in advance. You may take a train from Yichang to Zhangjiajie and it will take you around 5 hours. I think it is a little difficult for you to visit Zhangjiajie by yourself since people there do not speak English. You'd better to join a local group.
