We like to go to Harbin in mid Jan. How do we get there

We have free airtickets to fly to Shanghai or Beijing (which place is more direct)? We like to go to Harbin in mid Jan. How do we get there...how many hrs by air/train/bus...If we stay in the city...can we walk to the snow festivals etc... and the sights etc? How cold will it be in mid Jan?..can we wear track shoes whilst walking abt?
Do you do private tours from Shangahi or Beijing to Harbin for 2-3 people? Thank you

You can fly into Beijing, then fly from Beijing to Harbin. It takes about 1 hour and 55 minutes by air from Beijing to Harbin. The Festival is held annually from January 5 and lasts for over one month. Thus, you can go to see it. You can also go to visit the Ice Lantern Garden Party, Sun Island Scenic Area, Yabuli International Ski Resort, Harbin Ice and Snow World, etc. It is very cold in Jan with a low temperature to -24C. You'd better wear warm boots.
The nice China travel agent--China Travel Guide, may provide this private tours. You can try to contact with its tour service through this website.
