Emma, do we talk about Hainan Airlines flight HU7964? If this is the case, your first stop in China will be Changsha. Also, since the time spent in transit in China is counted starting from your first point of landing and until your final departure will be longer than 24 hours (Chansha scheduled arrival at 16:15 and final scheduled departure from Haikou at 16:45), you will be eligible for 240 and not for 24 hour visa free transit. This is all fine if your traveling company consists of UK citizens. So, upon your landing in Changsha the very first thing that you will do will be to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and your hotel booking confirmation. After a short check, you will be granted a permit and you will head to the immigration. After you have done this, you will go to the gate for your flight ti Haikou. Your flight from Changsha to Haikou will be a purely domestic flight. You should have in mind that you could be required to perform a luggage collection at some point and to perform new check-in, but I cannot say whether that will be the case. This is a detail that you will see with the airline at the time of your check-in in UK. You should not be worried about it because you have enough time for all those formalities. So, when you arrive in Haikou, you do not need to perform any formality, but to exit the plane and continue toward the city to enjoy your time on your own. Have a nice journey.
