Airport Transit, Baggage Question at Beijing Airport.

Hi

I will transit in Beijing airport for 12 hours, overnight. I will come in from Detroit on Delta Airlines and on to the US via Miat airline the next afternoon. In Terminal 2 to Terminal 3.

I will not have a Chinese visa. I understand I can transit visa-free for 24 hours even as an American . The embassy website also says I cannot leave the airport.

But does this mean I can still proceed through customs and immigration, as long as I show the immigration officer my onward journey tickets? I ask this because I'm not sure how I can make sure my check-in baggage can stay with me. I assume I'll have to pick the bags up from my first airline (Delta), then check them in myself with my second airline (Miat). But, if I can't clear immigration (and onward to the baggage claim area), how would I accomplish this?

Well, since it is a international -International transfer, you have no need to go through the customs and immigration check. After arrival at Beijing Airport, you can directly go to claim your baggage and recheck in it. Then get your next boarding pass and wait for your next flight.

I was told that the Beijing airport closes overnight so I can't stay inside the airport. I must get a visa to enter China and leave the next morning. Is that true? I prefer staying at the airport overnight if permited.

Hi, don't worry! You can surely stay overnight at the airport, in the waiting hall or a fast food restaurant.
You don't need a visa according to the latest regulations.
