It is a karst cave and was just be there in the hill side when it was first known. It was a smal cave. The local county book recorded the hill that the cave was located but without mention of the cave. There are inscriptions in the cave left by the visitors in the Tang Dynasty. Nearby villagers also knew that there was a cave but they keep the secret, for they made it as a place to hide during war time. It was opened to the public in 1962. It is said that its name came from the reeds growing near the cave hole which could be used to make flutes.
