Traveling independently from Hong Hong to Guilin by train

Hi, we are 2 Europeans flying to Hong Kong and staying there 3 days. After that we would like to go by train to Guilin and then onwards by plane to Xi’an and then by train to Beijing. We can travel visa free up to 30 days. I have read that some areas have restrictions regarding duration of the stay and you need permission to stay 72 or 144h.
Can we just independently cross the border from HKG to Mainland China without group tour and visa free?

Yes, you can. Your destinations in the mainland are all the allowed areas to travel during the 30-day visa-free stay. The 240h visa-free transit (previous 72/144) is another policy for international transit passengers.
