You need following documents for China visa application: original passport valid for more than 6 months with blank visa pages; application forms both V2011A and V2011B, photo; Japan visa or residence permit; possibly hotel reservations in China and air ticket to the destination after leaving China. You are not required visa to Hong Kong if you will stay there for less than 30 days.
