About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

Transit visa without leaving airport

Add a little more detail (optional)
I am a french citizen going to France this summer from Tokyo with China souther airlines.
I will have a transit in China (Guangzhou) for 5 hours.
Do I need a transit visa if I do not leave the airport?

If you remain within the airport without passing customs, then you have not "entered" China. Hence, you do not require a transit visa or any kind of visa for that matter.
