About:China Customs Declaration

I have been trying to get customs officials,China for my query but could not reach them as they do not answer my letter which has been sent through registered post and also faxed to Shanghai office. Please let me know how can i get my doubts be cleared regardings the customs duty to the following material:

I am planning to carry 200 grams of precious alloy (95 % Platinum + 5 % Gold) cups for laboratory use. Currently they are in damaged / unusable condition and I need to send them to Changshu Chonghong Precious Metal Co, Limited, China. The company has sent their quotation for recycling our metal and recycling charges will be US $ 1000 (One Thousnd us dollars only).

I requested the customs department,Shanghai,China to give me some feed back about the customs charges for recycling of our metal scrap in China but I could not get reply from them. I am planning to visit China very soon. So, I am dangling whether visit not to visit as If they charge customs duty very high price for my scrap metal I will be the big looser. China is fast growing country and it is wondering me how come customs department, China does not respond to queries of people.

Your cooperation in this regard is highly appreciated.

Maybe China customs hasn't revceived your letter because of internet problem or other reasons. You are right that China customs has strict rules for metal taken into China. I find that Changshu Chonghong Precious Metal Co, Limited is located at Jiangsu Province, so you will enter China from Shanghai Right? Then try to call Shanghai customs directly by telephone: (86)21-68890000
