This is not a problem at all. There is no limit on entries, definitely. You can travel like this practically every day if you wish, all visa free. Here in both cases you will be covered by 24 and not 240 hour visa free transit because your total transit time in Shanghai is shorter than 24 hours. Not a big deal because it does not change the fact that you can travel visa free. During your first layover you will just walk from your arrival to your departure gate and you do not to fill out any forms nor to perform any formality. You will just encounter a security check between the two gates. You should be just a bit faster in order to reach your departure gate on time. During your second layover, since you have a long transit time, you will want to exit the airport and to have a nice night rest. So, during your second layover the first thing that you will do will be to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and your hotel booking confirmation. This is all free of charge. After a short check, you will be granted a permit and then you will head to the immigration. When you clear the immigration you will head to your hotel to have a night rest. Please, just allow enough time for your re-entry at the airport in order to catch your flight on time. Have a nice journey.
