About:Chinese Embassy in Canada

My wife and I have booked a tour of China and Tibet. I am now preparing my visa application and since I live in Montreal I intend to drive to the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa to deliver the application and fee. However, their web site states they cannot authorize entry to Tibet unless I call an overseas number to apply. They do mention however,I will need a valid chinese visa. Can someone shed some light on this.I just want the easiest way to do this and make sure all is in order.

Please don't declare that you will visit Tibet on the visa application form, just apply for a China tourist visa, when you arrive in China, the travel agency in China accepts you will give you the Tibet Entry Permit, then you can visit Tibet. If you declare that you will visit Tibet on the visa application, you have to get the Tibet Entry Permit before visa application. It is complex. On the other hand, the travel agency in China needs the copy of your valid China visa and paspsort to apply for Tibet Entry Permit.

Therefore, the best solution is to obtain a China tourist visa in Ottawa, then go to China and ask the travel agency in China to give you the Tibet Entry Permit.
