About:Lijiang Old Town

We will be arriving in Lijiang on 4 April for 4 days, having flown in from Guangzhou. We are however getting conflicting messages about the risk of malaria in Yunnan.

Medical advice in the UK says that Yunnan is a very high risk area, and that we should therefore be taking malaria tablets during our stay. However, talking to people who have lived and worked in Kunming, say that even the courtyside is safe and at this time of year we do not need to be taking any medication.

If anyone can point me at a specific medical recommendation that would be helpful, as my wife (a nurse) is more likely to trust a medical recommendation.

If you have been there recently, any particular tips, sights not to miss or best places to eat would also be most welcome.

Has anyone made the trip to Shangri La, if so details of time, cost and if it was worth it also appreciated.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Malaria is rare in Yunnan now. If you still have concern, you can take an inoculation in advance, but I don't think it's necessary.
The attractions in Lijiang are Lijiang Old Town, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Naxi Ancient Music, dry sea, etc. Well-known local food there are Jidou Liangfen (a kind of jelly made from chick pea, Baba (a kind of fried potato cake), Bingfenliangxiao (a tasty and refreshing dessert) and butter tea.
