About:Chinese Consulate in Chicago

We would like to visit Kaikou, Hainan after our stay in Hong Kong. I am aware that a visa is required for Mainland China, but as Kaikou, Hainan is an island will we need a visa?

Yes, you need a visa to visit Haikou, Hainan, USA nationals are not allowed to apply for visa on arrival. For nationals of other developed countries, it is easy for them to get one month visa on arrival at Haikou. In order to develop Hainan Island, China government give priority to Hainan, which can issue visa on arrival to aliens. However, nationals of USA, France are prohibited to get VOA in China.
