About:Chinese Consulate in Vancouver

Is there a way to find out if a marriage certificate from China is authentic? I have a friend who says he did not get married to a woman he met in China. He said he was going to; but then he changed his mind. Now she has sent via e-mail a copy of the original marriage certificate, also a translation into English. My friend is Canadian yet under nationality it says: Chinese. His full name and birthdate are accurate as well as his passport number. Where can a person take these documents to find out if he is married? He has a girlfriend here in Canada who is very puzzled by all of this. Any help would be appreciated.

Mrs.Barb Thiessen, it is easy to identify whether your friend is married or not. His girlfriend can ask him to present a Single Status Certificate issued from China. It is also required when he makes marriage registration in Canada or China.

First, get a Single Status Certificate from the local Marriage Registry Office of Civil Affairs Bureau,

then notarized by a local Notary Office (Chinese Version and English Version)

at last authenticated by Canadian embassy/consulates in China.

Once your friend can get this single status certificate, which can prove that he is not married.
