About:2024 / 2025 / 2026 Public Holiday Calendar

We want to visit Beijing for a week in 2012, around April or May. Are there any festival dates that we should avoid as we have heard that it gets very busy during festivals? Will banks and shops be open during festivals and will public transport be very crowded? thankyou

Apr. 3 to 5 is the Qingming Festival, and Apr. 30 - May 2 is the May Day. The banks and shops will be open for business as usual, while the transportation will be crowded.

Please be aware that most restuarants are closed from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Beijing Time. Outdoor food (stick food) is available almost anytime and is delicious. Banks and shops will be open during April 30 to May 1. Ude local currency RMB or Yuan for everything. American Express Travelers Checques can be cashed at Bank of China - specific locations (see AMEX website), but you will need passport and pay a fee.
