About:Chinese Consulate in Melbourne

HI,

We are planning a tour to Shanghai. We hold Australian passport, but both have right of abode in Hong kong and valid 港澳居民內地通行證, do we need a visa? Thanks.

Hi,

Can you please clarify this statement from Ms Elliott's reply to Mr. Felix Kung, "In principal, the 港澳居民內地通行證 can't be used if you go to Mainland China from Melbourne, Australia rather than Hong Kong. However, generally speaking, the rule is loose, many aliens use this permit to enter Mainland China from overseas."? Obviously we do not like to have to apply for instant visa while we are almost ready to board the planes from Melbourne. I heard rumour that Australia Immigration Control had refused leaving Australia citing lack of Visa to China for people holding 港澳居民內地通行證. Is that true? Thanks

Generally speaking, you can enter Mainland China without a China visa by holding 港澳居民来往内地通行证.

However, if you meet an immigration officer who is very strict, you will be denied to enter Mainland China because you hold Australia passport.

no visa is required if you hold Mainland entry permit for HK and Macao residents.
