About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

I am an Hong Kong Born United Stated Citizen. I am trying to apply for Chinese visa. The instruction from the embassy site states that an orginal former passport is needed for first time visa. My questions are
1) I was a minor when I moved to US and never held a passport. The only documentation I have is an outdated junior HK ID card (11 yr old - 18 yr old. Do i need to send it in the original or copy?
2) I am hoping to apply the mutiple entry 24 month visa. My spouse is American born and never been to China, What documentation do I need to get my spouse 24 month visa? Is original required? or copy is enough?

thanks so much for your time.

That is to say you are going to apply for a 24 months multiple entry visa to Mainland China and you are a Chinese-American born in Hong Kong, right? if yes, you can provide your old HK ID card to the embassy instead of Chinese passport. For your spouse, you can provide your Marriage Certificate for visa application. (both original and copy are required, original ones will be returned to you when visa is ready).
