Hi, you should prepare all the requirements for applying a visa, otherwise, you may be refused. Without reservation letter from the hotel, it is okay if you have round trip ticket and invitation letter from the family in China, your sister's husband. If this is the first time to China, it seems the bank passbook is necessary. Although you do not have but it is not a difficult problem to solve. You can put some money inside and get them out when you get back. For the detailed info of the requirements, you can read the content on the webpage of China embassy in your country.
