About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

I am transiting through Hong Hong from thed US to Vietnam. My flight arrives HKG at 8 PM and departs 12 hours later at 8 AM. Do I need a visa if I stay at the airport? Do I need a visa if I go to a hotel nearby to rest?
Thanks,
Bob
