Hello,
On Feb 19th, I have a flight from New York to Taipei with a 14h overnight layover in Beijing airport. I'll arrive in Beijing at 6pm, and depart for Taipei the next morning at 8am. I'll fly with air china (arrive + depart in Terminal 3E). Do I have to pick up my luggage and re-check it in? It's an overnight layover, so I think I need to re-check in, but not sure cuz it's same airline & same terminal. Also, am I allow to leave the transit area? I don't have a visa, but many people said it's not required for transit passenger. I wanna go see the whole airport cuz I heard it's amazing. Though, if they let me go out to the main terminal, how would they know if I leave the airport? Couldn't one just hop on the train and go to the city? Is there another border inspection out in the main terminal or something? Please let me know, thanks!!

A connecting flight of Air China? I think the airlines should handle the lugguage for you. You'd better confirm this to the air China. You don't need to re-checkin. You should stay within the international transfer area and international depature Hall, or the lugguage claim area. If you go to the immigration, Arrival hall, you are asked to show visa.
