i entered china on a z-visaam waiting on my residence permit, my wife is living in

I entered China on a Z-Visa and am waiting on my residence permit, my wife is living in Hong Kong as we are not citizens of the same country, she has become ill and I would like to see that she alright, is it possible after having entered on a Z Visa to be permitted to leave for say 24 hours and return. I know a Z is one entry only.

Have you got any receipt when you apply for a residence permit? if yes, the paper may be proof that you are getting your residence permit under processing.
