About:Hiking from Jinshanling to Simatai

My wife and I are planning another trip to the Great Wall in March 2011 with our two children (girls age 3 and 5).

We hiked Mutianyu in March 2010 with our eldest daughter (then 4 years old) and had great fun. We didn't find this stretch of the wall dangerous (although extra caution was required at certain parts).

We are considering Jinshanling for the coming trip but I'm concerned whether it would be too challenging / dangerous for the kids. We don't intend to trek the whole wall from Jinshanling to Simatai but to spend a couple of hours on the wall for the experience, view, photos, etc. We are planning to hike from the cable car point to Zhuanduokou pass and down the trail back to the village. Is this stretch safe enough for our daughters?

We also plan to stay the night at Jinshan Hotel. Are there other sights to see in that area besides the wall?

Jinshanling is safe to climb for your kids, since the parts opened to visitors are all built with stone steps and you will just climb for part of it. I'm afraid there is no other attractions there except for the great Wall.
