Hi

I am having trouble with some train questions. I need to travel on 5th Jan from Hong Kong to Changsha on fast trains and return on 10th Jan.

The best way I can find is Hung Hom to Guangzhou and then Guangzhou to Changsha taking the D bullet train.

My main questions are

1/ can I simply walk up to the ticket desk on the day of travel and buy a ticket and if so is there an English speaking desk in Guangzhou?

2/ Can I walk into HK travel agent in HK and purchase and collect tickets for both legs of the journey?

Any advice appreciated

Yes, you can walk up to the ticket desk on the day of travel to buy ticket. I didn't see any English speaking desk in Guangzhou train station before. You may find the train staff or someone to help you.
You can ask for the travel agent to purchase and collect tickets for both legs of your journey.
