About:China Customs Declaration

The 20% tax /duty is only on items you plan to bring in keep in China? Or one must pay the 20% on all items over 2000 yuan? If I want to brin my camera and computer on our trip and take it back with me, I still must pay the 20% to bring the items in because they are expensive?

I am reading the answers here and they do not match what was written on Page 1 (which says that the Delcaration is for items that you plan to keep in China). What about expensive items you bring and bring out? You must pay the 20% upon entry, but when you exit, you do not get back the 20% (as original deposit)?

It's on items one plan to bring in keep in China. I don't think you need to pay tax for items you'll take back to your country.

Tell them the expensive items are for personal use and will take back when leaving China. Then they will not charge the tax upon entry.

I think there are wrong answers on this forum, then. If you read the questions #225 (or in that area), some people asked if they need to pay duty on their iPod, camera, and computer, and some people said, Yes, 20% - if it is over 5,000 RMB/CNY. Maybe the Chinese person did not understand the orginal questions? The persons only want to take the stuff to China, but not give it away as gifts, I think.
