About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Hi, I'm currently studying in Guangzhou, China and I have problem with my visa. I'm holding L visa (2months). I gave my passport to the school office few days after I arrived, which is 20Sept. They held my passport for 1month and do nothing about the visa. The rules change because of the Asian Games and I cannot apply for the visa anymore; I have to go back to my country before the L visa expired. When I asked why didn't they apply earlier, they said that they can only apply the visa 2weeks before it expiration date. My question is, is it true that you cannot apply student/tourist visa before that time or is it just the reason so I do not blame them?

I would really appreciate any response.

It is not true that they can't apply for student visa 2 weeks before the expiration date. I guess that they just want you use the L visa for a longer time, once they get a new visa, your present L visa will automatically expire, if they apply for student visa 2 weeks before its expiration date, then you can use your present L visa untill you get a new visa.
