Hi,We are planning to travel to Australia from Russia. We may either be in transit or may spend a day in Beijing, China for our connecting flight to Australia. We intend to then travel back to Russia from Russia via Beijing and once again may be in transit or may spend a day in Beijing for our connecting flight back to Russia. What visa or visas will we need?

You do not need visa if you hold a through ticket and have booked seats on international airliners flying directly through China, and will stay in a transit city for less than 24 hours without leaving the airport. If you are going to stay one day in Beijing, I highly recommend you to apply for a double entry tourist visa to China for your whole trip.
