About:China Transit Visa

I'm a Canadian citizen in Phnom Penh right now.

I booked a flight through China Southern Airlines to go from Phnom Penh to Guangzhou with a 4 hour layover before my next connection with Air China that takes me from Guangzhou to Beijing. At Beijing, I have another layover 4.5 hours before flying back to Vancouver with Air China. In total, I am in China for less than a little under 12 hours but I never leave the airports in China. Would I still need any sort of transit visa for this? From what I've read around the internet, they say that i dont. "if however you are a transit passenger and have more than one stopover in china, you must exit the transit lounge at the first stop to apply for an endorsement in your passport that permits multiple stops in China. As long as you have a ticket that continues on to an international destination, the endorsement should be routine".

Anyways, my flight was this morning and they didnt give me my boarding pass because they say that I needed a visa, which from what I understand you dont. I feel absolutely robbed. What is the real answer here? Do i need a visa if I enter into guangzhou? Can the airline just deny my boarding pass? And what are my best chances of getting a new ticket issued to me at the expense of China Southern and Air China?

TIA

You need to apply for a China tourist visa in this case.

Why do i need a tourist visa, or even much less, a transit visa? Everthing i've read until now says that i dont need a transit visa even if it's 2 stopover cities in china. I leave within 24 hours, and i have a confirmed departure ticket out of china as well. Why would I need a tourist visa? I need to understand.

The other cases i've read on here, people have said that you do not need a transit visa to transit 2 cities in china. Just a stopover permit.

Mr.Christopher, I understand you, according to the China Exit & Entry Law, you don't need a transit visa for the 2 stopovers in Guangzhou and Beijing, you just need a Stay Permit which can get obtained in Guangzhou airport, however, the airline doesn't know the law, the staff refuses to issue you a boarding pass, then you can't enter Guangzhou, the airline staff thinks that you need a visa.

Law is law, reality is reality, in order to gurantee your trip, you have to get a China tourist visa to board the plane.
