About:China Train

Hi,

I'm coming to China for two weeks next year, just before the Spring Festival. I am arriving in Chengdu, staying there for two nights, then hopefully going from Chengdu to Xi'an on an overnight train, and then Xi'an to Beijing on an overnight train the following day. Because it will be hard to buy train tickets last minute during the Spring Festival rush, I want an agent to buy my tickets for me and deliver them to my hotel before I arrive. Is this possible during the Spring Festival rush (late January 2011)?

I ask this because I've read that foreigners are entitled to only one train ticket at a time during the Spring Festival rush. Is this true? If it is, I'll have to skip Xi'an.

I've also read that foreigners have to show their passport when they buy tickets during the Spring Festival rush. So is it even possible to get an agent (such as Travel China Guide) to buy my tickets for me?

Thanks :)

I haven’t heard about that. Usually, no passport is required when buying domestic train tickets. Since tickets are hard to purchase during the Spring Festival, you would better arrange the tickets booking in advance.
