About:Chinese Consulate in Vancouver

Now finally I made to China consulate in Vancouver after 2days later, they told me I need to provide my old passport in order to pick the visa.. the day when I apply I recall there is NO one tell me to bring old passport, and they cant expect me to read Chinese words on the pick-up paper. (even tho is not clear writing anyway). After I waited in line for about 2.5hrs all I got is nothing. and went back home I couldn't find my old passport at all, far as I remember back then when I renew my passport through the mail they NEVER send me back the old passport, So I wonder if I can use Canadian Citizenship Card to pick up my passport and visa this time?? please advise! Thank you for your time.
