In the east side of the square in front of Xian Railway Station, there is special tourism bus 游1 (Y1) to Huashan Directly. The bus only stops at Xiyue Temple which is near to Huashan. It is about 2 hours and the ticket price is 22RMB per peron. When you get off the bus, you can find shuttle bus there to pick up passengers to the cable car station. Tourism bus line has only a few stopovers on the way and usually go to the attraction directly. Normal bus to Huashan is not city bus, but coach found in Xian East Coach Station (城东客运站) in Changle Middle Road. You can take the bus to 华阴 (Huayin) and get off at 华山. HuashanThe difference between Y1 and norm coach to Huashan is:
Y1 is cheaper, only one bus a day at 8am. Coach are air conditioner bus, every 15-20 minutes. The journey is 2 hours and ticket price is about 33RMB.

Usually there is only one bus(Y1) every day. But on holidays there may be 2-3 and the first one will depart when it's full, not at 08:00 but earlier.

I think you do not need to get the ticket in advance, but arrive at the bus station a little earlier.
