Question

My friends and I plan to go backpacking in China.  Which cities in China would you recommend us to go?  Where should we start our journey?  We have about 4 weeks and would like to go to at least four cities in thsi summer.  What can we expect to see in each city?  We can't afford to stay at 5-star hotels.  Could you recommend some inexpensive places for us to stay?  Since my friends and I cannot speak Chinese, do you think it will be a problem?Brigitte

You may have some problems if you can not speak Chinese, for it is for all foreign visitors. So, if you want easier place to see, I think Beijing, Shanghai would be good. If you want to see beautiful scenery, I recommeng, Chengdu (to Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong), Kunming (to Dali, Lijiang), Huangshan.
