About:Shanghai Metro Ticket

I copy "Seniors over 70 years of age can take the metro for free (except during rush hours, 7-9am and 5-7pm on weekdays) by using their social security cards (also RFID-embedded) at a special turnstile at each metro station" for your kind confirmation on
if it is applicable to only Chinese citizens, not to foreign visitors with foreign
passports.

I'm afraid that this policy is only for Chinese citizens with Shanghai ID card.
